03.03.A1

Massey Ferguson 03.03.A1 – MFA (Multi-Function Armrest): Issue With Speed Control Lever Position Sensor On Armrest Signal Voltage (MFA)

Issue description

This indicates that the signal voltage coming from the potentiometer/sensor that monitors the position of the ground speed control lever is out of the expected range (either too high, too low, or erratic).

Check the cause

  1. Check Reference Voltage: Verify that the sensor is receiving the correct reference voltage (typically 5V or 10V) from the MFA module. If missing or too low, the MFA module or internal armrest power circuit may be compromised.

  2. Wiring and Harness Inspection: Check the wiring loom from the MFA module to the speed control lever position potentiometer for interruptions, chafing, or short circuits. Inspect the connector pins for corrosion or poor contact.

  3. Live Data Monitoring: Connect a compatible diagnostic tool (such as AGCO EDT or Jaltest) to read the live signal voltage values of the speed control lever sensor. Move the lever through its full range of motion to see if the voltage sweeps smoothly or drops out.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes during the repair.

  2. Access the Armrest Internals

Carefully remove the covers on the Multi-Function Armrest to expose the joystick and speed control lever assembly.

  3. Test/Isolate the Sensor

Back-probe the sensor connector. If the wiring harness and the MFA reference voltage are intact but the signal voltage remains out of specification or erratic, the sensor/joystick element has failed.

  4. Replace the Component

Remove the retaining hardware and electrical connectors, and install the new joystick/sensor element.

  5. Reassemble

Secure the armrest covers and reconnect the battery.

  6. Calibration

Use a diagnostic tool to perform a calibration of the speed control lever / spool valve control lever so the MFA module can learn the new sensor's minimum and maximum voltage limits.

  7. Clear Codes

Clear the 03.03.A1 fault code from the MFA memory and test drive the tractor to ensure normal ground speed control is restored.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Joystick Elements, Control Arm Rest

    3909462M91

Fits S-Series and Dyna-transmission models (e.g., 5710S, 6711S, 7714S, 8727S, etc.). Note: Depending on the exact tractor model and armrest configuration (e.g., Dyna-4, Dyna-6, or Dyna-VT), the specific joystick assembly part number may vary, but 3909462M91 is the primary replacement module for the main armrest control elements.
