Massey Ferguson 03.X.19 – MFA (Multifunction Armrest): CAN Bus Message From Joystick Controls On Arm Rest (MFA)
Issue description
Communication failure on the Controller Area Network (CAN) bus. The system is either receiving an invalid signal or has completely lost communication with the joystick controls located on the armrest.

Check the cause
Verify manual operation of PTO and hydraulic spool valves to confirm the issue is isolated to cab communication
Reset the joystick logic by moving the main joystick in all directions to its limits and attempting to unlock it
Inspect the isolation solenoid to verify the relay is functioning and the solenoid coil is not open
Check voltage at the console and inspect the CAN bus wiring harness for pinched wires, corrosion, or loose connector pins
Use a diagnostic tool to read the ECU failure memory and monitor real-time data from the MFA
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts while working on the CAN bus system.
Access the Armrest
Carefully disassemble the Multifunction Armrest (MFA) console to expose the joystick assembly and its wiring harness.
Harness Repair
If the diagnostic checks revealed damaged CAN High or CAN Low wires, repair the wiring harness or replace the damaged connector pins.
Joystick Replacement/Repair
If the wiring is intact but the joystick is unresponsive, the joystick's internal circuit board has likely failed. Replace the joystick assembly with a new OEM unit or send the faulty joystick to a specialized agricultural mechatronics repair service.
Reassembly
Install the repaired or new joystick and reconnect the armrest wiring harness.
Joystick Calibration
After replacing or repairing the joystick, use a diagnostic tool to perform a 'joystick calibration' within the MFA armrest control system so it recognizes the full range of motion.
Clear Codes
Clear the 03.X.19 fault code from the MFA module and test all joystick functions (forward/reverse, hydraulics, etc.) to confirm the repair.
