03.X.1A

Massey Ferguson 03.X.1A – MFA (Multi-Function Armrest): CAN Bus Message From Spool Valve Controls 1 And 2 On Arm Rest (MFA)

Issue description

Communication failure on the tractor's CAN bus network. Specifically, the electronic control module is not receiving the expected data messages from the fingertip spool valve controls or the micro-joystick (controlling auxiliary valves 1 and 2) located on the armrest.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the CAN bus network wiring harness and connectors between the MFA module and the spool valve controls inside the armrest for damaged cables, loose pins, or corrosion.

  2. Connect a compatible diagnostic tool (such as AGCO EDT, Jaltest, or Bosch ESI[truck]) to read the ECU failure memory and check the live values of the spool valve controls.

  3. Attempt a calibration of the spool valve control lever/joystick using the diagnostic tool.

Repair steps

  1. Access the Armrest Internals

Carefully open the MFA armrest console to access the internal wiring and the underside of the spool valve controls.

  2. Repair Wiring

If any CAN bus wires (CAN High / CAN Low) or power/ground wires to the joystick/fingertip switches are damaged, repair the harness and clear the fault codes.

  3. Recalibrate

If the wiring is intact, run the spool valve control lever calibration procedure via your diagnostic tool.

  4. Replace Components

If calibration fails, the controls are physically unresponsive, or the internal circuit board has failed, you will need to replace the spool valve control joystick/fingertip unit or the MFA controller PCB. Note: If you are attempting to change the specification of the tractor (e.g., swapping fingertip spools for a loader joystick), this generally requires replacing the entire armrest assembly, which is highly expensive.
