03.X.97

Massey Ferguson 03.X.97 – TECU: High Amp Draw On Auxiliary Valve Switch 7 (TECU)

Issue description

This code indicates that the Tractor Electronic Control Unit (TECU) has detected an excessive electrical current (high amp draw) on the circuit for Auxiliary Valve Switch 7. This is typically caused by a short circuit to ground (0 V) within the switch itself, the wiring harness, or the connector.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness leading to Auxiliary Valve Switch 7 (on the armrest/FingerTIP controls or joystick) for chafing, pinched wires, or melted insulation.

  2. Disconnect the Auxiliary Valve Switch 7 connector and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or bent terminals.

  3. Use a multimeter to check for a short circuit to ground (0 V) on the signal wire between the switch and the TECU.

  4. Test the Auxiliary Valve Switch 7 itself for internal shorts. Unplug the switch to see if the high amp draw disappears.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the battery to prevent further electrical damage during testing.

  2. Access the Switch

Remove the necessary trim panels on the armrest or control console to access Auxiliary Valve Switch 7 and its wiring harness.

  3. Repair Wiring

If the diagnostic checks revealed a short to ground in the wiring harness, repair the damaged section of the wire or replace the affected harness segment. Ensure all connections are properly insulated.

  4. Replace the Switch

If the wiring is intact but the switch failed the internal short test, remove the faulty Auxiliary Valve Switch 7 and install a new OEM replacement.

  5. Reassemble and Test

Reconnect the battery, turn on the ignition, and clear the fault codes using a compatible diagnostic tool (such as the AGCO Electronic Diagnostic Tool).

  6. Verify Operation

Operate Auxiliary Valve 7 to ensure the high amp draw code (03.X.97) does not return and the hydraulic valve responds correctly.
