Massey Ferguson 04.0.0C – TRANS: Forward Clutch Solenoid Open Circuit
Issue description
The transmission controller monitors the voltage and amperage on the forward clutch solenoid circuit. If the voltage or amp draw is lower than expected, the controller flags an open circuit, a short to ground, or a loss of power supply. When this fault is active, the transmission will typically fail to engage the forward clutch, resulting in a loss of forward drive.

Check the cause
Visual Inspection: Visually inspect the wiring harness running from the transmission controller to the forward clutch solenoid valve on the side of the transmission housing. Look for chafed wires, melted insulation, or loose connections.
Circuit Testing: Use a multimeter to check the wiring between the solenoid and the transmission controller for continuity, shorts to ground, or an open circuit.
Power Supply Check: Verify that the solenoid is receiving proper voltage when the forward direction is commanded (check for a lost power supply or a failed neutral latch relay).
Solenoid Coil Resistance: Unplug the forward clutch solenoid and measure the resistance across its pins. If the multimeter reads infinite resistance (OL), the internal coil is broken/open and the solenoid must be replaced.

Resolve Wiring Issues
If the diagnostic tests reveal a broken wire or corroded connector pin, repair or replace the damaged section of the wiring harness.
Replace the Solenoid
If the wiring is intact but the solenoid coil is open, relieve hydraulic system pressure, clean the area around the transmission valve block to prevent contamination, and swap out the faulty forward clutch solenoid.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery and use the tractor's diagnostic interface to clear the active 04.0.0C fault code.
Recalibrate the Transmission
Whenever a transmission controller is reset or a clutch solenoid is replaced, a transmission calibration procedure must be performed. Ensure no persons are in front of or behind the tractor during calibration. Ensure the Standard Instrumentation (ICU) and Armrest (ARM) controllers are calibrated before attempting to calibrate the transmission controller.
