Massey Ferguson 04.0.0E – TRANS: Forward Clutch Solenoid Amp Draw Issue
Issue description
The transmission controller has detected that the electrical current (amperage) flowing through the forward clutch solenoid circuit is outside of its expected operating range. This condition is typically caused by an internal failure of the solenoid coil (such as an internal short or open circuit), damaged wiring, or a corroded electrical connector.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading from the transmission controller to the forward clutch solenoid for chafed wires, corrosion, or hydraulic fluid ingress.
Disconnect the solenoid and test the coil resistance using a multimeter (a healthy solenoid measures around 10 Ohms; infinite or near zero indicates a dead solenoid).
Check the wiring harness for continuity between the TCU and the solenoid connector, ensuring there are no shorts to ground or shorts to power.
Perform a clutch pedal/transmission calibration via the tractor's dashboard interface to mitigate harsh or jumpy clutch engagement.
Repair steps
Preparation
Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and relieve any residual hydraulic pressure in the system.
Clean the Area
Locate the transmission hydraulic control valve block. Thoroughly clean the exterior of the block around the forward clutch solenoid to ensure absolutely no dirt or contamination enters the hydraulic circuit during removal.
Disconnect
Unplug the electrical connector from the faulty forward clutch solenoid.
Removal
Remove the retaining bolts or clips holding the solenoid in place and carefully pull the solenoid valve out of the transmission block.
Installation
Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid with clean hydraulic fluid. Insert the new solenoid into the valve block and torque the retaining hardware to OEM specifications.
Reassembly
Reconnect the electrical connector.
Clear Codes & Calibrate
Turn the key on, clear the 04.0.0E fault code from the TRANS module, and perform a transmission clutch calibration to ensure smooth engagement before returning the tractor to the field.
