Massey Ferguson 04.0.14 – Transmission Control Module (TRANS1 / TCU): Reverse Clutch Solenoid Low Amps

The transmission controller continuously measures the current draw from the reverse clutch solenoid circuit. If the current draw falls below the expected limit, the controller logs this code. This condition typically indicates that the circuit is open, shorted to ground, or has lost its power supply.

   Verify Solenoid Energization: Check if the reverse clutch solenoid is receiving a command/energizing when the tractor is shifted into reverse.

   Wiring Harness Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness from the Transmission Controller (CCM/TCU) to the Reverse Clutch Solenoid. Look for rubbed-through wires causing a short to ground, broken wires causing an open circuit, or corroded pins at the connectors.

   Power Supply Check: Verify that the solenoid circuit is receiving the correct voltage supply.

   Coil Resistance Test: Unplug the reverse clutch solenoid and measure the resistance across its pins with a multimeter to determine if the internal coil has failed (open or shorted).

   Repair Wiring

   If the diagnostic checks reveal a broken wire, short, or corroded connector between the TRANS1 module and the solenoid, repair the wiring harness or replace the damaged connector pigtail.

   Replace Solenoid

   If the wiring tests good but the solenoid fails the resistance test or fails to actuate when directly powered, remove and replace the Reverse Clutch Solenoid.

   Clear Codes

   Clear the 04.0.14 fault code from the Transmission Control Module using a compatible diagnostic scan tool.

   Clutch Calibration

   After replacing transmission solenoids or repairing transmission electrical faults, it is highly recommended (and often required) to perform a transmission clutch calibration procedure to ensure smooth engagement.
