Massey Ferguson 04.0.55 – TRANS: Transmission Temperature Signal Out Of Range

The controller is receiving a voltage or resistance reading from the transmission temperature sensor that falls outside the normal operating parameters. This is typically caused by a faulty sensor, an open circuit, a short circuit in the wiring harness, or extreme transmission fluid temperatures.

   Locate the transmission temperature sensor on the bottom of the transmission casing or near the hydraulic filter housing.

   Inspect the sensor wiring harness for chafing, breaks, or melted insulation, and check connector pins for corrosion, moisture, or loose fitment.

   Test the sensor resistance using a multimeter; an open circuit (infinite resistance) or a dead short indicates internal sensor failure.

   Check transmission/hydraulic fluid levels and ensure the transmission filter is not blocked to rule out fluid starvation and severe overheating.

   Preparation

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine. Allow the transmission to cool if it has been running.

   Access the Sensor

   Locate the faulty transmission temperature sensor on the transmission casing.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the electrical harness from the sensor.

   Removal

   Place a clean drain pan underneath the sensor area. Unscrew the sensor from the transmission housing. Note: Be prepared to install the new sensor quickly or drain the fluid below the sensor level to prevent excessive fluid loss.

   Installation

   Thread the new OEM temperature sensor into the casing and tighten it to the manufacturer's torque specification.

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical harness back into the new sensor, ensuring it clicks securely into place.

   Fluid Check

   Top off the transmission/hydraulic fluid to replace any that was lost during the swap.

   Clear Codes

   Turn on the ignition, clear the fault codes from the TRANS module, and test-drive the tractor to ensure the code does not return.
