   Perform Software Testing (WinTest): Connect to WinTest, navigate to the gearbox tab, and check the range window for live status data on solenoid valves and range position sensors (sensor should register as open when a range is engaged).

   Perform In-Situ Multimeter Test: If ranges are shifting, connect diagnostic harness (Part No. X899980246204) between sensor and tractor harness. Measure voltage between connectors 1 and 2. It should be approx 14V when range is activated, and drop to 0V when another range is activated.

   Perform Bench/Removed Multimeter Test: If ranges are not shifting, remove the sensor and connect the diagnostic harness and multimeter. With ignition on, voltage must read 0V initially and jump to 12V-14V when physically pressing the ball of the sensor.

   Perform diagnostic tests

   Perform the WinTest software and multimeter voltage tests to confirm the sensor is internally shorted, open, or failing to read mechanical movement before replacing.

   Prepare for removal

   Prepare the tractor for sensor removal. Partially drain the transmission fluid if necessary to prevent spills, depending on the sensor's location.

   Remove faulty sensor

   Disconnect the electrical harness from the faulty speed sensor and unthread/remove it from the transmission block.

   Install new sensor

   Install the new OEM replacement sensor and tighten to factory specifications, then reconnect the electrical harness.

   Refill fluid

   Refill the transmission fluid to the correct level if any was drained during removal.

   Clear codes and test

   Use the WinTest or EDT (Electronic Diagnostic Tool) software to clear the 04.0.85 fault code and test drive the tractor to ensure proper shifting and speed registration.
