04.0.FE

Massey Ferguson 04.0.FE – Transmission Module (TRANS): Issue With Transmission Module Calibrations Or Parameters (TRANS)

Issue description

The transmission control unit has lost its calibration settings, has detected parameters that are out of the expected range, or requires a recalibration of the clutch/shuttle valves to function smoothly.

Check the cause

  1. Check Transmission Oil Temperature: Ensure the transmission fluid is between 35°C (95°F) and 45°C (113°F) using diagnostic screen 1.

  2. Warm Up the Solenoids: Cycle the PowerShuttle lever forward and reverse 10 times in each direction for 5 to 10 seconds to bring the control unit and solenoid valves up to operating temperature.

  3. Verify Component Disengagement: Ensure the differential lock and front axle (4WD) are completely disengaged to prevent interference with the calibration process.

  4. Check the Shuttle Position Potentiometer: If the tractor experiences jerking or delayed direction changes, verify the voltage on the shuttle position potentiometer located on the transmission cover.

Repair steps

  1. Position the tractor

Position the tractor on flat ground, place the transmission in neutral, and release the parking brake.

  2. Configure PowerShuttle settings

Configure the PowerShuttle progressivity settings to '0' on the left-hand dash screen (adjusting forward engagement, reverse engagement, and ratio shifting sensitivity).

  3. Raise engine speed

Raise the engine speed to 1500 RPM (± 100 RPM).

  4. Raise PowerShuttle arm

Raise the PowerShuttle arm to the 'raised' position and hold it there while simultaneously pressing the differential lock switch.

  5. Hold controls

Hold both for approximately 10 seconds (or at least 3 seconds depending on the exact model year) until the right-hand transmission gear screen displays 'Ct'.

  6. Begin calibration

Once 'Ct' is displayed, place the PowerShuttle arm into the forward position to begin the calibration.

  7. Allow calibration

Allow the tractor to calibrate for approximately 10 minutes. You will hear the transmission shifting and making noises; this is normal.

  8. Verify completion

When calibration is complete, the screen will display the transmission ratio you were in before starting (e.g., '1A/2A').

  9. Save parameters

To save the new parameters, place the PowerShuttle into neutral, disengage the differential lock, idle the tractor down, and turn the engine off.

  10. Test drive

Restart the tractor and test drive using various maneuvers (forward to reverse, neutral to forward, etc.) to validate the shifting quality.
