Massey Ferguson 04.00.04 – Transmission Control Module (TRANS): Issue With Signal Voltage From Clutch Pedal Sensor

The controller is receiving an implausible, missing, or out-of-range voltage signal (either too high or too low) from the clutch pedal sensor, which is often referred to as the "Bottom of Clutch Switch". When this fault occurs, the tractor may experience a sudden loss of drive, harsh/jumpy clutch engagement, or intermittent transmission response.

   Inspect the Wiring Harness: Check the wiring harness leading to the clutch pedal sensor for rub points, open circuits, or shorts to ground/power.

   Test Voltage: Use a multimeter to verify that the sensor is receiving the correct reference voltage and that the ground circuit is intact.

   Check the Pedal Box Assembly: Inspect the physical linkage in the pedal box. Ensure the switch is being properly actuated by the pedal and that the bracket is not bent or misaligned.

   Check for Secondary Codes: Look for related instrument panel codes (e.g., D139 for electrical signal too high, or D140 for electrical signal too low) which can confirm a hard electrical fault at the sensor.

   Locate the Sensor

   The clutch pedal sensor (Bottom of Clutch Switch) is located inside the pedal box assembly at the base of the clutch pedal.

   Remove the Faulty Sensor

   Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the sensor. Remove the mounting hardware or bracket securing the switch to the pedal assembly.

   Install the New Sensor

   Mount the replacement sensor into the pedal box and secure the hardware. Reconnect the electrical harness.

   Calibration

   On many older models (like the 6200/6400 series), replacing the switch solves the problem without any additional programming. However, on newer models (such as the 4700, 5700, and 6700 series), you may need to perform a clutch pedal calibration via the dash controls to resolve any harsh or jumpy clutch engagement after the repair.
