Massey Ferguson 04.00.0C – TRANS1: Forward Clutch Solenoid Amp Draw Issue

The transmission control module has detected an abnormal electrical current (amperage) draw on the circuit responsible for actuating the forward clutch solenoid. This is typically caused by an internal short in the solenoid coil, a short-to-ground in the wiring harness, or a failing transmission controller.

   Inspect the wiring harness from the TRANS1 module to the forward clutch solenoid for chafed wires, pinched harnesses, or exposed copper shorting to the chassis.

   Disconnect the plug at the forward clutch solenoid and inspect the pins for corrosion, water ingress, or looseness. Clean with electrical contact cleaner if necessary.

   Use a multimeter to measure the resistance (ohms) across the pins of the forward clutch solenoid coil to check for an internal short or open coil.

   With the key on, verify that the TRANS1 module is sending the correct voltage to the solenoid when forward gear is selected.

   Locate the Solenoid

   Identify the forward clutch solenoid on the transmission control valve block.

   Remove the Faulty Solenoid

   Disconnect the electrical harness. Clean the area around the valve block to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system, then unbolt and remove the solenoid valve.

   Install the New Solenoid

   Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid with clean Massey Ferguson transmission fluid. Install the solenoid into the valve block and torque to OEM specifications.

   Reconnect and Clear Codes

   Reconnect the electrical harness. Use a diagnostic tool to clear the 04.00.0C fault code from the TRANS1 module.

   Transmission Calibration

   After replacing a transmission solenoid, you must perform a transmission calibration (e.g., Dyna-4/Dyna-6 calibration or PowerShuttle progressivity settings) to ensure the controller learns the engagement characteristics of the new valve.
