Massey Ferguson 04.00.15 – TRANS2: Transmission Pressure Switch Open When Engine Is Running

The control module is not receiving the expected closed-circuit signal from the transmission pressure switch while the engine is active. This indicates low transmission hydraulic pressure, an internally failed pressure switch, or an open circuit in the wiring harness.

   Verify that the transmission/hydraulic fluid is at the correct level and the filters are not clogged (low fluid can cause an actual low-pressure condition).

   Locate the transmission pressure switch and inspect the electrical connector and wiring harness for broken wires, loose pins, or corrosion that would cause an open circuit.

   Remove the connector and use a digital multimeter to test the switch for continuity. If the engine is running and pressure is normal, the switch should close. If it reads open, the switch is faulty.

   If the switch tests fine, connect a mechanical pressure gauge to the transmission test port. Start the engine and verify if actual transmission oil pressure meets OEM specifications (if pressure is low, the issue is hydraulic, not electrical).

   Prepare machine

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine. Allow the system to depressurize and cool.

   Locate switch

   Locate the transmission pressure switch on the side of the transmission housing or hydraulic valve block.

   Clean area

   Clean the area around the switch to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

   Disconnect wiring

   Disconnect the electrical wiring harness from the switch.

   Prepare for fluid loss

   Place a small catch pan underneath to catch any residual hydraulic fluid.

   Remove faulty switch

   Use a wrench to unscrew and remove the faulty pressure switch.

   Install new switch

   Thread the new transmission pressure switch into the port by hand to prevent cross-threading, then tighten to the OEM torque specification.

   Reconnect wiring

   Reconnect the electrical wiring harness.

   Verify repair

   Start the engine, check the switch area for any fluid leaks, and verify that the 04.00.15 fault code clears from the dashboard display. Top off transmission fluid if necessary.
