Massey Ferguson 04.00.22 – TRANS (Transmission Control Module): Issue With Signal Voltage From Foot Throttle Sensor (TRANS)

Issue description

The electronic control unit is receiving an out-of-range voltage signal from the foot throttle pedal sensor (e.g., >4.5V or <0.5V). When this occurs, the system cannot accurately determine the operator's requested engine speed, often resulting in the machine defaulting to a limited operating mode or idle speed for safety.

Check the cause

  1. Check the 5V reference supply from the Transmission module/ECU to the foot throttle sensor to ensure it is not too high or too low.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the foot throttle sensor and the TRANS module for micro-cracks, chafing, degraded solder joints, and ensure pins are clean, tight, and free of corrosion.

  3. Test the sensor output using a multimeter or diagnostic tool by monitoring the signal voltage while slowly depressing the foot pedal. The voltage should sweep smoothly without dropping out or spiking.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

  2. Access the Sensor

Locate the foot throttle sensor assembly at the base of the throttle pedal in the cab.

  3. Disconnect and Remove

Unplug the electrical connector from the sensor. Remove the mounting bolts securing the sensor/pedal assembly to the floorplate.

  4. Install New Sensor

Mount the replacement foot throttle sensor and tighten the hardware. Reconnect the electrical harness.

  5. Recalibrate

Reconnect the battery. Use a diagnostic service tool (such as the AGCO Electronic Diagnostic Tool / WinTest) to clear the stored 04.00.22 fault code and perform a throttle pedal calibration procedure so the module learns the new minimum and maximum voltage values.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Foot Throttle Sensor (or Throttle Pedal Position Sensor)

Ensure the replacement sensor matches the Tier 4 / iT4 emissions generation of the tractor, as electronic control architectures (and their corresponding voltage calibrations) vary between Tier 3, iT4, and Tier 4 Final models.
