Check the cause
Inspect the cruise control button on the armrest or side console for physical damage, sticking, or debris that might prevent the button from fully depressing or returning to its neutral state.
Trace the wiring harness from the cruise control switch to the TRANS module. Look for chafed wires, loose connections, or corrosion in the connector pins.
Disconnect the switch and use a multimeter to test for proper continuity when the button is pressed and released. If the switch does not show a clean open/closed state, the internal contacts are likely worn out.
Verify that the reference voltage from the transmission controller is reaching the switch connector.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.
Access the Switch
Carefully pry or unscrew the trim panel on the armrest or side console where the cruise control button is mounted.
Disconnect
Unplug the electrical connector from the back of the faulty cruise control switch.
Remove
Squeeze the retaining tabs or remove the mounting screws to extract the switch from the console panel.
Install New Switch
Snap or screw the new cruise control switch into the panel.
Reconnect
Plug the electrical connector into the new switch, ensuring it clicks securely into place.
Reassemble
Reinstall the console trim panel.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the ON position, and use a diagnostic tool (or the tractor's onboard diagnostic display) to clear the 04.00.23 fault code. Test the cruise control operation during a test drive.
