Massey Ferguson 04.00.29 – TRANS: Issue With Message From Speed Lever On Armrest (TRANS)

This indicates a CAN bus communication failure. The Transmission Control Module is either not receiving a signal, or is receiving an invalid/implausible data message from the speed lever (often the MultiPad joystick or T-handle) located on the operator's armrest.

   Inspect the armrest pivot wiring for chafing, exposed copper, or broken wires at the hinge point where the armrest moves

   Check the main connector plugging into the speed lever/joystick for backed-out pins, corrosion, or loose connections

   Verify the CAN bus network by checking if other armrest controls (like auxiliary remotes or PTO switches) are functioning. If the entire armrest is dead, check main power, ground, or CAN backbone to the armrest controller

   Test continuity on the CAN High and CAN Low wires between the armrest speed lever connector and the Transmission Control Module

   Disconnect Power

   Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical spikes on the CAN bus during repair.

   Disassemble the Armrest

   Remove the retaining screws on the underside of the right-hand armrest console to lift off the top cover plate.

   Remove the Speed Lever

   Unplug the electrical harness connector from the base of the speed lever/joystick. Remove the mounting hardware securing the lever assembly to the armrest chassis.

   Install the New Part

   Seat the new OEM speed lever into the armrest console and secure the mounting screws.

   Reconnect and Route Wiring

   Plug the harness back in. Ensure the wiring is routed away from any pinch points or moving parts within the armrest.

   Reassemble and Clear Codes

   Reinstall the armrest covers, reconnect the battery, and turn the ignition on. Use the tractor's diagnostic terminal (or a dealer service tool) to clear the stored 04.00.29 fault code.

   Test drive the tractor to ensure forward/reverse shuttling and Dynashift speed changes operate smoothly without triggering the code.
