Massey Ferguson 04.00.2A – TRANS: Transmission Output Speed Sensor Issue

The controller is detecting an erratic, intermittent, incorrect, or missing signal from the transmission output speed sensor, which monitors the rotational speed of the transmission output shaft to determine ground speed and manage shifting.

   Connect the diagnostic service tool, navigate to the monitor screen, and select 'inst trans output speed' to display the sensor output in RPM.

   Drive the tractor and monitor the transmission speed sensor signal on the screen. Watch for the signal to change smoothly and look for erratic drops or missing signals.

   Disconnect the processor connectors and the transmission output speed sensor connector, then test the wiring harness for open circuits or short circuits to ground.

   With the sender installed in the transmission, check for a short to earth (ground) on each sender terminal and check the internal resistance of the sender across its terminals.

   Locate sensor

   Locate the Transmission Output Speed Sensor on the transmission housing.

   Disconnect sensor

   Disconnect the transmission output speed sensor connector.

   Disconnect processor

   Disconnect the corresponding processor connectors at the transmission controller.

   Test wiring

   Test the wiring for open/short circuits. If a wiring fault is found, repair the harness as required.

   Remove faulty sensor

   If the wiring checks out OK but the sensor failed the resistance or short-to-ground tests, remove the faulty sensor from the transmission housing.

   Install new sensor

   Install the new Transmission Output Speed Sensor.

   Reconnect and clear codes

   Reconnect all wiring harnesses and clear the fault codes using the service tool.

   Test drive

   Test drive the tractor while monitoring the 'inst trans output speed' parameter to verify the repair.
