Massey Ferguson 04.00.33 – TRANS: Issue With Message From Speed Lever On Armrest (TRANS)

Issue description

Communication failure or signal interruption between the armrest-mounted speed control lever (Multipad joystick or T-handle transmission control lever) and the tractor's transmission controller. The system is failing to receive valid speed or directional commands from the armrest lever over the CAN bus network.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the Multipad joystick or T-handle speed lever on the right-hand Command Control Armrest for physical damage, sticking buttons, or liquid ingress.

  2. Check the wiring harness and connectors between the armrest control module and the Transmission ECU for pinched wires inside the armrest pivot point, loose connector pins, or corrosion.

  3. Perform a CAN bus communication check between the armrest and the TRANS module using a diagnostic tool to verify network integrity.

  4. Verify alternative controls by testing if the tractor can still be shifted using the left-hand Power Control Lever (PowerShuttle) on the steering column. If the left-hand lever works but the right-hand armrest lever does not, the fault is isolated to the armrest lever/wiring.

Repair steps

  1. Power down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts while working on the CAN bus modules.

  2. Access armrest internals

Remove the retaining screws on the underside or side panels of the Command Control Armrest to lift off the top cover.

  3. Disconnect joystick

Carefully unplug the multi-pin electrical connector attached to the base of the speed lever/Multipad joystick.

  4. Remove faulty lever

Unbolt the joystick assembly from the armrest chassis.

  5. Install new part

Mount the replacement joystick/speed lever into the armrest and secure the mounting hardware.

  6. Reconnect and reassemble

Plug the electrical connector into the new joystick, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place. Reassemble the armrest covers.

  7. Clear codes and test

Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition on, and use a diagnostic tool (or the tractor's SIS dashboard display) to clear the 04.00.33 fault code. Test the forward/reverse and speed functions to confirm the repair.
