04.00.64

Massey Ferguson 04.00.64 – Transmission Control Unit (TRANS): Transmission Turbo Clutch Solenoid Voltage Supply Issue (TRANS)

Issue description

Actuation of the turbo-clutch solenoid valve (Y004) is faulty due to a voltage supply problem. When this occurs, the TK (turbo clutch) valve cannot be actuated properly, which prevents the high-pressure circuit from closing to the tank, meaning the tractor cannot build up the necessary high pressure to achieve traction. Warning: The tractor must not be driven.

Check the cause

  1. Check transmission control fuses, specifically F56 for the Y004 clutch/turbo-clutch solenoid valve

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the basic control unit ECU (A050) and the turbo-clutch solenoid valve (Y004) for chafing, breaks, or corrosion

  3. Test the electrical resistance of the turbo clutch solenoid valve to determine if the internal coil has shorted or failed open

Repair steps

  1. Immobilize the Tractor

Ensure the tractor is parked safely on level ground with the engine off, as the tractor should not be driven with this active fault.

  2. Locate the Valve

Locate the turbo clutch solenoid valve, which is fitted directly into the transmission valve block.

  3. Replace Fuses (If Applicable)

If diagnostic checks revealed a blown fuse (e.g., F56), replace it. If it blows again immediately upon key-on, there is a dead short in the solenoid or harness.

  4. Remove the Faulty Solenoid

Disconnect the electrical connector from the turbo clutch solenoid valve. Remove the retaining hardware and carefully extract the valve from the valve block.

  5. Install the New Solenoid

Lubricate the O-rings on the new OEM solenoid valve and install it into the valve block. Secure the retaining hardware.

  6. Reconnect and Clear Codes

Reconnect the electrical harness. Use a diagnostic tool to clear the 04.00.64 fault code from the TRANS module.

  7. Test Operation

Start the tractor and verify that the transmission engages properly and the code does not return.
