Massey Ferguson 04.00.69 – Autotronic 5: Issue With Range 3 Solenoid Valve (TRANS1)

The controller has detected an open circuit or short circuit +12 V or 0 V on the L54 solenoid valve circuit, or there is an inconsistency between the Range 3 position switch (L58) and the Range 3 solenoid valve (L54).

   Inspect the wiring harness between the Autotronic 5 controller and the L54 Range 3 solenoid valve for breaks (open circuit) or chafing causing a short to +12V or ground (0V).

   Check the Range 3 position switch (L58) to ensure it is operating correctly and is not sending inconsistent signals compared to the L54 solenoid valve's commanded state.

   Test the L54 solenoid coil resistance with a multimeter (a healthy transmission control solenoid typically measures around 10 Ohms).

   Locate solenoid valve

   Locate the transmission solenoid valve block on the gearbox housing. The Range 3 solenoid valve is designated as L54, located alongside L52 (Range 1), L53 (Range 2), and L55 (Range 4).

   Disconnect connector

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the L54 Range 3 solenoid valve.

   Remove retaining screws

   Remove the retaining screws and the flange holding the L54 solenoid valve in place.

   Remove faulty valve

   Remove the faulty solenoid valve from the gearbox housing.

   Install new valve

   Install the new solenoid valve, ensuring any O-rings or seals are properly seated and lubricated.

   Reinstall flange

   Reinstall the flange and tighten the retaining screws.

   Reconnect connector

   Reconnect the electrical connector.

   Clear fault codes

   Clear the fault codes from the Autotronic 5 module using the Wintest diagnostic software or the tractor's onboard diagnostic interface.
