Massey Ferguson 04.00.6B – TRANS1: Issue With Range 1 Engaged Switch Signal

The transmission control system is receiving an erratic, missing, or out-of-bounds electrical signal from the switch responsible for confirming that the transmission has successfully physically shifted into Range 1.

   Check for proper voltage (typically around 12V) and continuity at the switch connector.

   Inspect the wiring harness between the TRANS1 module and the switch for chafing, breaks, or shorts to ground.

   Test the Range 1 Engaged Switch with a multimeter to ensure it properly opens and closes when the transmission shifts.

   Ensure the Range 1 solenoid is receiving power and actuating properly before condemning the switch, as a mechanical failure to shift will cause the switch to correctly report that Range 1 is not engaged.

   Locate the Components

   Locate the bank of range change solenoids and switches, which are mounted externally on the side of the transmission housing.

   Inspect the Connection

   Disconnect the electrical connector for the Range 1 Engaged Switch. Inspect the pins for moisture, dirt, or corrosion. Clean with electrical contact cleaner if necessary.

   Remove the Switch

   If the switch failed the multimeter continuity test, unscrew the faulty switch from the transmission housing.

   Install the New Switch

   Thread the new Range 1 Engaged Switch into the transmission port and tighten to OEM torque specifications.

   Reconnect and Clear Codes

   Reconnect the wiring harness. Use a diagnostic tool to clear the 04.00.6B fault code from the TRANS1 module.

   Test Drive

   Start the tractor and cycle through the transmission ranges to verify that the tractor successfully shifts into Range 1 without triggering limp mode or returning the fault code.
