Massey Ferguson 04.00.6C – TRANS1: Issue With Range 2 Engaged Switch Signal

The transmission control system is not receiving the correct electrical signal from the switch responsible for confirming that the transmission has successfully physically engaged into Range 2.

   Verify Switch Continuity: Use a multimeter to check for continuity across the switch terminals in each position to verify if the internal contacts have burned out or failed.

   Inspect the Wiring Harness: Check the 4-pin connector and wiring harness leading to the switch for damage, corrosion, or moisture ingress. These switches are exposed to harsh conditions and weather-seal failures are common.

   Check Voltage: Verify that the switch is receiving the proper reference voltage (typically ~12V) from the TRANS1 controller.

   Inspect Range Solenoids: Range changes on Dyna-6 transmissions are handled electronically via a bank of solenoids on the side of the transmission. Inspect the Range 2 solenoid, as solenoid failures can sometimes mimic or trigger switch engagement faults.

   Locate the Switch

   Locate the transmission range switch assembly, which is mounted on the side of the transmission housing near the shift solenoids.

   Remove the Faulty Switch

   Disconnect the electrical harness connector. Unbolt and remove the faulty range switch from the transmission block.

   Install the New Switch

   Clean the mounting surface. Install the new OEM switch and secure it.

   Reconnect Wiring

   Reconnect the wiring harness, ensuring the weather seal clicks into place to prevent future moisture contamination.

   Clear Codes

   Clear the 04.00.6C fault code from the TRANS1 module.

   Calibrate the Transmission

   After replacing transmission control components on Dyna-4/Dyna-6 tractors, a calibration is required. Ensure the tractor is in neutral, PTO is disengaged, and the park brake is released. Raise the engine speed to approximately 1500 RPM. Raise the PowerShuttle arm (left of the steering wheel) to the raised position and hold it there while simultaneously pressing the differential lock switch. Hold both for approximately 10 seconds to initiate the calibration sequence.
