Massey Ferguson 04.00.70 – Transmission Controller (TRANS): Cruise Speed C1 Button Issue (TRANS)

Issue description

The system is detecting an electrical fault, implausible signal, or stuck state from the C1 button, which is located on the tractor's armrest joystick and typically used by the operator to set or engage a preset engine speed or cruise control.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the C1 button on the joystick/armrest for physical damage, sticking, or debris lodged around the button housing that might keep it permanently depressed.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connectors running from the armrest joystick to the main cab harness for chafing, pinched wires, or loose pins.

  3. Check the switch circuit for continuity, shorts to ground, or open circuits.

  4. Verify there are no accompanying CAN bus communication fault codes, which would indicate a broader harness or module issue rather than just the button.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during disassembly.

  2. Access the Joystick

Remove the retaining screws on the armrest console cover to expose the underside of the joystick control unit.

  3. Disconnect

Carefully unplug the multi-pin electrical connector from the bottom of the joystick assembly.

  4. Replace the Component

Remove the mounting hardware holding the old joystick and drop the new unit into place.

  5. Reassembly

Reconnect the electrical harness (no adapter is usually needed for OEM replacements as the internal contact geometry matches). Secure the armrest console cover.

  6. Clear Codes

Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition on, and use a diagnostic tool to clear the 04.00.70 fault code. Test the C1 button to ensure the preset speed engages properly.
