Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the seat switch (usually routed under the seat suspension) for chafing, pinch points, or vibration damage.

  2. Disconnect the seat switch connector and check for loose pins, corrosion, or moisture.

  3. Use a multimeter to test the switch itself. Check the continuity across the switch terminals when the seat is empty (should be open) and when weight is applied to the seat (should be closed).

  4. Verify that the ground connection is solid and that the tractor's battery voltage is stable, as low voltage can sometimes trigger false sensor codes.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Locate the Switch

Locate the seat switch, which is typically mounted under the bottom seat cushion or integrated into the air/mechanical suspension base.

  3. Disconnect

Unplug the electrical pigtail connector from the faulty seat switch.

  4. Remove

Unbolt or unclip the switch from its mounting bracket. (Depending on the seat model, you may need to remove the bottom seat cushion for better access).

  5. Install

Snap or bolt the new OEM seat switch into place.

  6. Reconnect

Plug the electrical harness back into the new switch, ensuring the connector clicks securely.

  7. Test

Reconnect the battery. Turn the key on, clear the stored 04.00.78 fault code via the dashboard or a diagnostic scan tool, and sit in the seat to verify that the transmission engages normally without throwing the code.
