Massey Ferguson 04.00.8A – Transmission Control Module (TCU): Issue With Signal Voltage From Clutch Pedal Sensor (TRANS)
Issue description
The control unit is receiving an out-of-range, missing, or implausible electrical voltage signal from the clutch pedal sensor. This can result in harsh clutch engagement, a jumpy clutch, or a complete loss of drive functionality.

Check the cause
Check the clutch pedal sensor connector and wiring harness for rub points, open circuits, or shorts to ground/power
Test the sensor's resistance and verify that it is receiving the correct supply voltage
Ensure the clutch pedal itself is not sticking and that the sensor fork/linkage is intact
Attempt to recalibrate the clutch pedal via the tractor's dashboard service menu to resolve potential signal errors
Repair steps
Replace the Sensor
Locate the clutch pedal sensor on the pedal assembly. Disconnect the electrical harness, remove the mounting hardware, and swap in the new sensor.
Preheat the Transmission
Before calibrating the new sensor, the tractor must be on flat ground and the transmission gear oil must be warmed up (typically to at least 50°C, or between 35°C and 45°C depending on the exact model).
Prepare for Calibration
Secure the vehicle with the handbrake, ensure the PTO is disengaged, set the hand throttle to idle, and place the shuttle lever in the Neutral position.
Enter the Service Menu
Access the dashboard diagnostic/service menu (often done by holding the 'A' button or specific dash combinations depending on the series).
Run Clutch Pedal Calibration
Navigate to the "Clutch Pedal Calibration" or "Travel Clutch Calibration" option. Follow the on-screen prompts to calibrate the pedal.
Confirm and Test
The dashboard will display "OK" or a confirmation code when the calibration is successful. Restart the tractor and test drive using various maneuvers (forward to reverse, neutral to forward) to ensure smooth transmission shifting.
