Massey Ferguson 04.00.99 – TRANS2: Issue With Powershift P Solenoid Supply Voltage

An electrical fault (such as an open circuit, short circuit, or out-of-range voltage) detected on the supply line to the 'P' range solenoid on the powershift transmission, causing the tractor to fail to shift into certain ranges or refuse to move.

   Multimeter Coil Test: Locate the bank of four range change solenoids on the side of the transmission. Use a digital multimeter to test the resistance of the 'P' solenoid coil. A reading of infinite resistance (OL) indicates a burned-out internal coil.

   Harness & Voltage Check: Inspect the wiring harness leading to the TRANS2 module for chafing, corrosion, or loose pins. Verify that the module is sending the correct reference voltage to the solenoid when the range is commanded.

   Switch Verification: Verify switch operation if the solenoid coil tests within specification.

   Hydraulic Pressure Test: Ensure the clutch pack is receiving the correct hydraulic pressure to rule out a mechanical pressure loss preventing the shift.

   Preparation

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the ignition. Partially drain the transmission fluid if the solenoid location on your specific model sits below the fluid line.

   Access the Solenoid Bank

   Locate the transmission control valve block on the side of the gearbox.

   Removal

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the faulty Powershift P solenoid. Remove the retaining bolts/screws holding the solenoid to the valve block and pull the solenoid free.

   Installation

   Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid with clean transmission fluid. Insert the new solenoid into the block and torque the retaining bolts to OEM specifications.

   Reconnection

   Reconnect the electrical harness. Top off the transmission fluid if any was drained.

   Clear Codes

   Use a diagnostic tool or the tractor's onboard diagnostic menu to clear the 04.00.99 fault code. Test drive the tractor to ensure it shifts smoothly through all ranges.
