Massey Ferguson 04.00.9A – Transmission Controller (TRANS2): Issue With Powershift L Solenoid Supply Voltage

The electronic control system has detected an electrical fault (such as an open circuit, short to ground, or short to power) in the supply voltage circuit specifically feeding the "L" Powershift solenoid on the transmission valve block.

   Inspect the wiring harness running from the TRANS2 controller to the transmission valve block for chafed wires, pinched lines, or melted insulation

   Disconnect the electrical connector at the Powershift L solenoid and the TRANS2 module header to check for water ingress, corrosion, or pushed-back pins

   Use a multimeter to measure the internal resistance of the Powershift L solenoid coil (infinite resistance or near zero ohms indicates internal failure)

   With the key ON, back-probe the solenoid connector to verify if the TRANS2 module is sending the correct supply voltage to the solenoid

   Preparation

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

   Locate the Solenoid

   Locate the electro-hydraulic powershift control valve block on the side of the transmission housing and identify the specific "L" solenoid.

   Removal

   Disconnect the electrical lead from the solenoid valve, clean the area around the solenoid, remove the retaining bolts or snap ring holding the solenoid in the valve block, and pull the solenoid straight out.

   Installation

   Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid with clean transmission fluid, insert the new solenoid into the valve block, and secure it with the retaining hardware.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the electrical connector and reconnect the battery.

   Clear Codes

   Start the tractor and use an OBD diagnostic tool or the tractor's onboard diagnostic menu to clear the 04.00.9A fault code, then test drive to ensure the transmission shifts correctly.
