Check the cause

  1. Read and save the complete list of error codes present on the tractor

  2. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the transmission range sensor for chafing, breaks, or heat damage

  3. Disconnect the sensor plug and check the connector pins for corrosion, moisture ingress, or loose terminals (frequent causes of false sensor fault codes)

  4. Verify the voltage supply and ground to the sensor using a multimeter

Repair steps

  1. Secure the tractor

Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine.

  2. Locate the sensor

Locate the transmission range position switch/sensor on the exterior of the gearbox housing.

  3. Disconnect the harness

Carefully disconnect the electrical harness connector from the sensor.

  4. Remove the faulty sensor

Unbolt and remove the faulty range position sensor from the transmission housing.

  5. Clean the mounting surface

Clean the mounting surface on the gearbox to ensure no dirt or debris enters the transmission.

  6. Install the new sensor

Install the new OEM transmission range sensor and tighten to factory specifications.

  7. Reconnect the harness

Reconnect the electrical harness, ensuring the plug clicks securely into place.

  8. Clear code and test drive

Connect a diagnostic tool to the tractor, clear the 04.01.08 fault code from the TRANS module, and test drive the tractor. Shift between high and low ranges to ensure smooth engagement and verify the code does not return.
