Massey Ferguson 04.01.0E – TRANS1: Forward Clutch Solenoid Low Amps (TRANS1)
Issue description
This fault code indicates that the transmission controller is detecting a lower-than-expected electrical current draw (amperage) on the circuit for the forward clutch solenoid when it is commanded to engage. A "Low Amps" condition typically points to high electrical resistance in the circuit, an open circuit, a failing internal solenoid coil, or a wiring issue (such as a broken wire or corroded connector).

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness running from the TRANS1 module to the forward clutch solenoid on the transmission valve block for chafed wires, broken insulation, or loose connections
Disconnect the forward clutch solenoid connector and check for dirt, moisture, corrosion, or pushed-out pins. Clean with contact cleaner if necessary
Perform a coil resistance test using a multimeter set to Ohms across the two pins of the forward clutch solenoid. An open circuit (infinite resistance) or excessively high resistance indicates the solenoid coil has failed internally
Measure the continuity of the power and ground wires from the solenoid connector back to the TRANS1 module to rule out a broken wire in the harness
Repair steps
Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine.
Locate the transmission control valve block.
Usually mounted on the side of the transmission housing. Identify the forward clutch solenoid (it is often paired next to the reverse clutch solenoid).
Thoroughly clean the area around the solenoid.
Prevents dirt or debris from entering the hydraulic system when the valve is removed.
Disconnect the electrical connector from the solenoid.
Remove the retaining bolt or snap ring securing the solenoid to the valve block.
Carefully pull the solenoid straight out.
Have a rag ready to catch any residual hydraulic fluid.
Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid with clean transmission fluid.
Insert the new solenoid into the valve block and secure it with the retaining hardware.
Reconnect the electrical connector, ensuring it clicks securely into place.
Start the tractor, clear the fault codes via the dash or diagnostic tool, and test the forward/reverse shuttle operation to confirm the repair.
Perform a clutch calibration procedure if required.
Depending on the specific transmission model (e.g., Dyna-4 / Dyna-6), a clutch calibration procedure may need to be performed via the dash control center to ensure smooth engagement.
