Massey Ferguson 04.01.23 – TRANS: Cruise Control Button Signal Issue (TRANS)

Signal failure or communication interruption between the cruise control activation button (typically located on the multi-function joystick or armrest console) and the transmission controller. The system is detecting an implausible, missing, or shorted electrical signal when the cruise control button is pressed or monitored.

   Inspect the cruise control button on the Multipad joystick / Command Control armrest for physical damage, sticking, or debris preventing the button from returning to its neutral state.

   Connect the AGCO Electronic Diagnostic Tool (EDT), navigate to the Transmission (TRANS) module, and monitor the live input state of the cruise control button to see if it changes from OFF to ON.

   Remove the armrest cover and inspect the wiring harness connecting the joystick to the armrest sub-module and the CAN-BUS lines leading to the TRANS ECU for pinched wires, loose pins, or corrosion.

   Verify there are no other active CAN communication codes, as a loss of communication between the armrest module and TRANS module will cause button signals to fail.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts during disassembly.

   Access the Joystick/Armrest

   Carefully remove the retaining screws on the Command Control armrest console to access the underside of the Multipad joystick.

   Test the Switch/Joystick

   Disconnect the joystick's main electrical connector. Use a multimeter to test the continuity of the cruise control button pins while pressing the button.

   Replace the Component

   If the switch fails the continuity test, the switch or the entire joystick handle must be replaced (on many modern MF Multipad joysticks, the buttons are integrated into a single sealed circuit board inside the handle, requiring a handle replacement).

   Reassemble

   Plug the new joystick/switch into the harness, ensuring the connector clicks securely into place. Reinstall the armrest plastics.

   Clear Codes and Calibrate

   Reconnect the battery. Turn the ignition on and use the AGCO EDT to clear the 04.01.23 fault code from the TRANS module.

7. 7

   Test Operation

   Start the tractor and test the cruise control engagement in a safe area to ensure the signal is recognized and the tractor maintains speed.
