Massey Ferguson 04.01.2D – TRANS: Steering Column Forward/Reverse Drive Lever Issue
Issue description
This code triggers when the controller detects an erratic, out-of-range, or missing electrical signal from the power shuttle lever (the lever used to change the tractor's direction between forward, neutral, and reverse). The internal electrical contacts or the potentiometer inside the lever housing may be worn out, or there is a communication failure between the lever and the transmission controller.

Check the cause
Remove the steering column covers and visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the forward/reverse lever for chafed wires, pinched lines, or a loose connector plug.
Disconnect the lever's harness and check for corroded, bent, or pushed-out pins that could cause a loss of signal to the TRANS module.
Check the voltage signal coming from the shuttle position potentiometer/switch. Ensure the voltage sweeps correctly for Forward, Neutral, and Reverse positions without dropping out or spiking erratically.
Attempt to run a shuttle calibration procedure to see if the controller can successfully relearn the lever's position values.
Repair steps
Preparation
Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
Access the Lever
Remove the plastic shrouds/cowling surrounding the steering column to expose the base of the forward/reverse lever.
Disconnect
Unplug the electrical connector linking the power shuttle lever to the main steering column harness.
Removal
Remove the mounting screws or bolts securing the lever assembly to the steering column and slide the faulty lever out.
Installation
Fit the new Genuine AGCO power shuttle lever into the exact column fitment and secure it with the mounting hardware.
Reassembly
Reconnect the electrical plug, ensuring it clicks securely into place. Reinstall the steering column shrouds.
Calibration
Reconnect the battery. Turn the tractor on and perform the transmission/shuttle calibration procedure (via the dashboard or diagnostic tool) so the Autotronic/TRANS controller can learn the exact voltage parameters of the new lever.
