Check the cause
Check the wiring harness and electrical connector at the hydrostatic speed/direction sensor for corrosion, moisture ingress, or broken wires.
Use AGCO EDT (Electronic Diagnostic Tool) or Wintest software to monitor the live data from the sensor. Check for inconsistent speed readings or an incorrect direction of rotation signal while the tractor is moving.
Remove the sensor and inspect the magnetic tip. An excessive buildup of metal shavings on the sensor can distort the signal and may indicate internal mechanical wear within the transmission.
Verify that the transmission hydraulic oil level is correct and the filters are not blocked (which can sometimes trigger secondary transmission codes).
Repair steps
Safely park the tractor on level ground, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine.
Locate the hydrostatic speed/direction sensor on the transmission housing.
Refer to the specific Dyna-VT transmission diagram for your exact model year.
Thoroughly clean the area around the sensor to prevent dirt or debris from falling into the transmission housing during removal.
Disconnect the electrical wiring harness from the sensor.
Remove the retaining bolt securing the sensor to the transmission housing.
Carefully pull the sensor straight out of the bore.
Lubricate the O-ring on the new replacement sensor with clean transmission fluid to prevent tearing during installation.
Insert the new sensor into the housing and secure it with the retaining bolt.
Torque to OEM specifications.
Reconnect the electrical harness, ensuring the connector clicks into place and is secure.
Connect a diagnostic tool to clear the 04.01.31 fault code from the TRANS module, then perform a test drive to verify the transmission shifts correctly and the code does not return.
