Massey Ferguson 04.01.47 – TRANS: Transmission Range Has Not Moved After Range Solenoid Has Been Energised (TRANS)

The transmission control system has commanded a range change by sending electrical current to the transmission range solenoid. However, the transmission range position switch/sensor did not detect the expected mechanical movement of the transmission into the new range. This mismatch triggers the code and typically results in a failure to shift ranges.

   Check the transmission/hydraulic fluid level and condition. Low or contaminated fluid can cause a loss of hydraulic pressure, preventing the solenoid from moving the shift forks.

   Inspect the wiring harnesses and connectors going to the Transmission Range Solenoid and the Transmission Range Position Switch for rubbed wires, corrosion, or loose pins.

   Test the range solenoid for continuity and proper resistance. Manually apply voltage to verify if the solenoid actuates (clicks).

   Test the Transmission Range Position Switch to ensure it is sending the correct voltage/resistance back to the TRANS module when the transmission is manually shifted.

   Perform a hydraulic pressure test to verify that the transmission control valve block is receiving adequate hydraulic pressure to execute the shift.

   Prep the Machine

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, lower all implements, and turn off the engine.

   Depressurize & Disconnect

   Relieve any residual hydraulic system pressure and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.

   Locate the Components

   Locate the transmission control valve block on the side of the transmission housing where the range solenoids and position switches are mounted.

   Clean the Area

   Thoroughly clean the area around the solenoid and sensor to prevent dirt from entering the open hydraulic ports.

   Replace the Solenoid (if faulty)

   Disconnect the electrical plug. Remove the retaining bolts/hardware holding the solenoid in the valve block. Pull the old solenoid out. Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid with clean hydraulic fluid and press it into place. Torque retaining bolts to OEM spec.

   Replace the Position Switch (if faulty)

   Disconnect the electrical plug. Unthread the old sensor from the transmission housing. Thread in the new sensor and tighten appropriately.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect all electrical connectors. Reconnect the battery.

   Testing

   Start the tractor, check for hydraulic leaks, and cycle through the transmission ranges to ensure smooth shifting and verify that fault code 04.01.47 has moved to an inactive state (or clear it via the dash/diagnostic tool).
