Check the cause

  1. Check the transmission/hydraulic oil level and condition, as heavily contaminated oil or a severely clogged filter can cause erratic sensor behavior.

  2. Locate the transmission filter blockage sensor (X20) on the transmission filter housing and inspect the wiring harness and connector for chafing, corrosion, or loose pins.

  3. Use a multimeter to check the sensor's resistance and verify that it is receiving the correct reference voltage from the TRANS module.

Repair steps

  1. Secure the Tractor

    Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine.

  2. Relieve Pressure

    Allow the transmission/hydraulic system to cool and relieve any residual pressure in the system.

  3. Clean the Area

    Thoroughly clean the area around the transmission filter housing to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system when the sensor is removed.

  4. Disconnect the Sensor

    Unplug the electrical connector from the X20 transmission filter blockage sensor.

  5. Remove the Sensor

    Unthread the faulty sensor from the filter housing. Have a catch pan ready, as a small amount of hydraulic fluid may leak out.

  6. Install the New Sensor

    Thread the new OEM sensor into the housing and tighten it to the manufacturer's specified torque.

  7. Reconnect and Test

    Reconnect the electrical harness. Start the tractor, check for leaks around the new sensor, and verify that the 04.01.49 fault code has cleared from the dash/display.

  8. Filter Replacement (Optional but Recommended)

    If the tractor is near its service interval, it is highly recommended to replace the transmission hydraulic filter at the same time.
