Check the cause
Halt Operation: Stop the engine immediately to investigate the cause and prevent catastrophic transmission failure.
Check Fluid Levels: Verify the transmission/hydraulic oil level using the dipstick or sight glass. Low fluid is a primary cause of overheating.
Inspect the Cooling System: Check the transmission oil cooler and radiator fins for blockages caused by mud, chaff, or debris.
Check for Filter Blockages: A clogged transmission filter can restrict flow and cause overheating. Check if any filter blockage codes (e.g., 04.01.50) are present alongside this code.
Verify Sensor Output: Access the Dash Control Center (Diagnostic Screen 1) to view the live transmission oil temperature. If the tractor is cold but the screen shows an overheating condition, the sensor or its wiring is likely faulty.
Inspect Wiring: Check the wiring harness and connector at the transmission oil temperature sensor for corrosion, breaks, or short circuits.
Repair steps
Top Off Fluid
If the transmission fluid is low, fill it to the correct specification using approved Massey Ferguson transmission fluid and inspect the casing and lines for leaks.
Clean the Cooler
If the oil cooler is obstructed, blow out the radiator and cooler fins using compressed air or low-pressure water.
Service the Filter
If the fluid is degraded or the filter is clogged, drain the transmission fluid, replace the transmission oil filter, and refill the system.
Replace the Sensor (If Faulty)
If diagnostics point to a false reading from a failed sensor: Locate the transmission oil temperature sensor (typically threaded into the bottom of the transmission casing). Disconnect the electrical connector from the sensor. Place a catch pan underneath to catch any residual fluid, then unthread the old sensor. Install the new sensor (do not overtighten, and use appropriate thread sealant if required by the manual). Reconnect the wiring harness.
Clear Codes and Test
Clear the fault codes from the TRANS module, start the tractor, and monitor the transmission temperature on the dash to ensure it rises normally and stabilizes.
