Massey Ferguson 04.01.6B – TRANS1: Issue With Range 1 Engaged Switch Signal

The transmission control system is either receiving an erratic signal, an out-of-range voltage, or no signal at all from the switch responsible for detecting when the transmission is physically engaged in Range 1.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the transmission range switch on the transmission housing for chafing, breaks, or rodent damage.

   Disconnect the sensor and check for water ingress, corrosion, or pushed-back pins in the connector.

   Verify that the sensor is receiving the correct reference voltage and ground from the TRANS1 module.

   Use a diagnostic tool to monitor the live data for the Range 1 switch while manually shifting the transmission. If the physical gear engages but the switch state does not change in the software, the switch is likely faulty.

   Safely park the tractor on level ground, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine.

   Locate the transmission range switch on the exterior of the transmission housing.

   Thoroughly clean the area around the switch to prevent dirt or debris from entering the transmission housing during removal.

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the switch.

   Unthread and remove the faulty transmission range switch.

   Install the new OEM transmission range switch and tighten it to the manufacturer's specified torque.

   Reconnect the electrical connector, ensuring it clicks securely into place.

   Connect a diagnostic tool to the tractor and clear the 04.01.6B fault code from the TRANS1 module.

   Start the tractor and cycle the transmission through its ranges, ensuring Range 1 engages smoothly and the fault code does not return.
