Massey Ferguson 04.01.70 – Transmission Controller (TRANS): Cruise Speed C1 Button Issue (TRANS)

The controller has detected a signal fault (such as a short circuit, open circuit, or implausible continuous signal) from the Cruise Control 1 (C1) button located on the Multifunction Armrest (MFA) or Multipad joystick. When this code is active, the tractor's cruise control 1 function is disabled as a safety precaution.

   Inspect the C1 button on the Multipad joystick to see if it is physically stuck in the depressed position, feels mushy, or lacks its normal tactile click.

   Use the tractor's terminal display to clear the stored fault code, restart the tractor, and press the C1 button to see if the code immediately returns (hard fault) or is intermittent.

   Inspect the wiring harness connecting the Multifunction Armrest to the main cab harness, looking for pinched wires under the armrest pivot points and checking the main connector for bent pins or corrosion.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts during disassembly.

   Access the Armrest Controller

   Remove the retaining screws on the underside or side panels of the Multifunction Armrest to expose the internal wiring and the base of the Multipad joystick.

   Test the Switch

   Disconnect the joystick's electrical connector. Use a multimeter to test the continuity of the C1 button circuit when pressed and released. If the switch fails the continuity test (e.g., stuck closed or open), the switch/joystick assembly must be replaced.

   Replace the Component

   Depending on the exact joystick revision, you may be able to replace just the button cluster, but often the entire Multipad joystick must be swapped. Disconnect the main harness, unbolt the joystick base, and install the new unit.

   Reassembly and Calibration

   Reassemble the armrest plastics, reconnect the battery, and turn on the ignition.

   Clear Codes

   Access the SIS (System Information Screen) or Datatronic terminal to clear the 04.01.70 fault code. Test drive the tractor to verify that the C1 cruise speed can be set successfully.
