Massey Ferguson 04.01.86 – TRANS: Transmission High Pressure Sensor Signal Voltage Issue

The transmission controller is receiving an electrical signal from the high-pressure sensor that falls outside the expected voltage range. This is typically caused by an electrical fault such as an open circuit, a short to ground, a short to power, or an internal failure of the sensor itself.

   Inspect the wiring harness routing from the Transmission High Pressure Sensor to the TRANS (Autotronic) controller for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinch points.

   Disconnect the sensor and check the connector pins for corrosion, moisture ingress, or pushed-back pins.

   Using a multimeter, verify that the sensor is receiving the correct reference voltage (usually 5V) and has a solid ground from the transmission controller. If missing, the fault lies in the wiring or TRANS module.

   Preparation

   Park the tractor on a level surface. Engage the hand brake or ParkLock, place the Power Control lever in neutral, and turn off the engine.

   Removal

   Locate the Transmission High Pressure Sensor on the transmission block. Disconnect the electrical harness and unthread the sensor. (Have a catch pan ready for minor hydraulic fluid loss).

   Installation

   Thread the new OEM Transmission High Pressure Sensor into the port and torque to factory specifications. Reconnect the electrical harness.

   Mandatory Calibration

   A transmission calibration must be carried out systematically after changing the transmission high pressure sensor. Preliminary conditions for calibration: Hand brake applied (or ParkLock engaged), Power Control lever in the neutral position, and the High/Low (Hare/Tortoise) range in neutral. Initiate the transmission calibration sequence via the tractor terminal/SIS (System Information Screen).
