Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the sensor for any breaks, chafing, or corrosion, as open circuits or poor connections often trigger signal faults.

  2. Check the sensor gap to ensure it is positioned correctly relative to the internal tone ring to read accurately.

  3. Inspect the condition of the tone ring itself for damage or metallic debris that could prevent the inductive sensor from generating a clean signal.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Always disconnect the tractor's battery before starting electrical work.

  2. Locate the Sensor

The transmission input shaft speed sensor is typically located on the transmission housing, often near the PTO shaft where access can be tight.

  3. Clean the Area

Thoroughly clean the mounting area around the sensor before removal to prevent dirt, dust, or moisture from falling into the transmission housing.

  4. Remove and Replace

Unbolt the faulty sensor and carefully extract it. Install the new weather-resistant inductive sensor.

  5. Set the Gap

Ensure the new sensor is positioned correctly relative to the tone ring.

  6. Reassemble and Test

Reconnect the wiring harness, reconnect the battery, and clear the fault codes. Test drive the tractor to verify that the transmission receives accurate speed data and shifts smoothly.
