Massey Ferguson 04.01.B1 – TRANS: Transmission Range Change Issue (TRANS)
Issue description
The tractor's electronic control system has detected a failure or anomaly when attempting to shift between transmission ranges. When the system fails to shift ranges or refuses to move, this code is triggered.

Check the cause
Inspect the Solenoid Bank: Locate the bank of four range change solenoids on the side of the transmission housing. Look for obvious physical damage or loose connections.
Test the Range Switches: Use a multimeter to check for continuity in each switch position to verify if the internal contacts have burned out.
Check the Wiring Harness: Inspect the weather-sealed wiring harnesses connecting the solenoids and switches for moisture ingress, damage, or corrosion that could cause intermittent signal loss.
Attempt a Calibration: Sometimes a transmission calibration can resolve shifting anomalies. Ensure the transmission fluid temperature is between 15-60°C before attempting.
Repair steps
Replace the Faulty Component
Disconnect the wiring harness and remove the faulty transmission control solenoid or range plunger switch from the side of the transmission. Install the new OEM component and ensure the weather-sealed connector is seated tightly.
Prepare for Calibration
Start the tractor engine and bring the RPMs to 1500.
Initiate Calibration
Engage the power shuttle and the differential lock simultaneously for approximately 3 to 10 seconds until the right-hand dash screen displays "Ct" (Calibration mode).
Run the Sequence
Shift the power shuttle lever into the forward position to begin the automatic calibration process. You will hear the transmission shifting through ranges. This process takes approximately 2 to 10 minutes.
Save Settings
Once the screen displays the transmission ratio (e.g., "1A/2A"), place the power shuttle in neutral, disengage the differential lock, idle the tractor down, and turn the engine off to save the new parameters.
Validate
Restart the tractor and perform several forward-to-reverse and neutral-to-forward maneuvers to ensure the shifting is smooth and the code does not return.
