04.01.E6

Massey Ferguson 04.01.E6 – TRANS: Transmission Internal Software Issue

Issue description

The transmission controller has detected an internal fault within its operating software, such as a memory checksum error (RAM/EEPROM), corrupted software, or a failure during End-of-Line (EOL) programming.

Applies to these machines

  • 7714
  • 7715
  • 7715S
  • 7716
  • 7716S
  • 7718
  • 7718S
  • 7719
  • 7720
  • 7720S
  • 7722
  • 7722S
  • 7724
  • 7724S
  • 7726
  • 7726S
  • Tier 4 (2015-2021)
  • 7700 Series

Check the cause

  1. Check system voltage: Verify the battery voltage and the power supply to the transmission module, as low voltage drops can cause temporary software glitches or trigger related codes.

  2. Check CAN BUS communication: Ensure the wiring harnesses and connectors leading to the TRANS module are secure and free of corrosion.

  3. Scan for related codes: Look for accompanying calibration codes (e.g., 04.01.EC Drive Pedal Not Calibrated, 04.01.ED Clutch Pedal Not Calibrated, or 04.01.EE Transmission Calibration Issue) which may indicate lost calibration memory.

  4. Diagnostic tool hookup: Connect the AGCO Electronic Diagnostic Tool (EDT) to read the current software version and check for specific checksum or EOL programming faults.

Repair steps

  1. Clear and Retest

Use the AGCO diagnostic scanner to clear the fault codes. Cycle the tractor's key power and operate the machine to see if the 04.01.E6 code returns.

  2. Software Reflash / Update

If the code is hard-set or returns immediately, the primary fix is to reflash the Transmission ECU. Use the AGCO EDT to download and install the latest transmission software update from the manufacturer.

  3. Recalibration

Once the software is successfully updated, perform a full transmission calibration procedure (calibrating the clutch pedal, drive pedal, and transmission range changes).

  4. Module Replacement

If the diagnostic tool cannot communicate with the TRANS module, the software update fails repeatedly, or the code persists after a successful flash, the internal memory (EEPROM/RAM) is physically damaged. The Transmission Control Module must be replaced and programmed to the tractor.

Parts you might need

(4)
  • Transmission Control Module (TCM) / Transmission ECU

Requires dealer programming upon installation. Exact OEM part numbers vary strictly by the specific tractor serial number and transmission type (Dyna-4, Dyna-6, or Dyna-VT).

  • Transmission Control Sensor / Switch

    3796579M1

    Fitment: 5700, 6700, 7600, and 7700 series including 7714-7726S

  • Transmission Control Solenoid

    4363356M3

    Alternate: 3794719M4

  • Side Control Box / Armrest Module

    ACW1065700

If the software issue is bridging between the transmission and the side console inputs on Dyna models
