Massey Ferguson 04.01.ED – TRANS (Transmission Control Module): Clutch Pedal Not Calibrated

Issue description

The system has detected that the clutch pedal stroke parameters (0% to 100% travel) have not been calibrated or the stored calibration values have been lost or corrupted. This often results in harsh or jumpy clutch engagement.

Check the cause

  1. Check transmission oil temperature to ensure it is between 35°C (95°F) and 45°C (113°F), as calibration will fail outside this window

  2. Inspect the Clutch Pedal Sensor (Sensor X68) for physical condition, damaged wiring, a short circuit to +12V, or a short to ground

  3. Verify the sensor signal voltage does not drop below the minimum acceptable threshold (0.25V - 0.5V) when the pedal is at rest

Repair steps

  1. Prepare the Tractor

Park the tractor on flat, level ground and secure the vehicle (apply the parking brake).

  2. Warm Up the Transmission

Operate the tractor normally or engage the PTO until the transmission oil temperature reaches the 35°C to 45°C window. You can monitor this via "Diagnostic Screen 1" on the Dash Control Center.

  3. Access Calibration Menu

Navigate through the tractor's Dash Control Center to the transmission calibration menu.

  4. Run Pedal Calibration

Select the specific routine for "Clutch Pedal Sensor Calibration".

  5. Perform Pedal Strokes

Follow the on-screen prompts, which will require you to fully depress and fully release the clutch pedal so the TRANS module can learn the minimum and maximum stroke values.

  6. Confirm Success

The display will show a confirmation message if the calibration is successful. If the display indicates a failure, the clutch pedal sensor is likely faulty and must be replaced, followed by a repeated calibration attempt.
