04.01.EF

Massey Ferguson 04.01.EF – TRANS (Transmission Control Module): Transmission Turbo Clutch Calibration Issue

Issue description

The transmission control system has detected missing, incomplete, or out-of-range calibration values for the turbo clutch (often associated with the PowerShuttle/Dyna transmission clutch engagement). It typically requires a recalibration of the transmission to resolve jerky shifting or shuttle engagement issues.

Check the cause

  1. Check for hard electrical faults: Ensure there are no active voltage or solenoid codes (such as 04.02.68 - Transmission Turbo Clutch Solenoid Voltage Supply Issue). If a solenoid or harness is actively failing, calibration will abort.

  2. Check fluid temperature: The transmission oil temperature must be strictly between 35°C (95°F) and 45°C (113°F). Monitor this via the Dash Control Center on diagnostic screen 1.

  3. Perform warm-up procedure: Engage the PTO to help warm the transmission. Activate the PowerShuttle (forward and reverse) 10 times in each direction for 5–10 seconds to warm up the control units and solenoid valves.

  4. Reset progressivity: Configure the PowerShuttle progressivity settings (forward engagement, reverse engagement, and ratio shifting sensitivity) all to '0' on the left-hand dash screen.

Repair steps

  1. Position the tractor on flat ground, place the transmission in neutral, and release the parking brake. Ensure the PTO is disengaged.

Prepare the tractor for dynamic transmission calibration.

  2. Raise the engine speed to approximately 1500 RPM.

Set the engine speed required for calibration.

  3. Raise the PowerShuttle arm (located to the left of the steering wheel) to the raised position and hold it there while simultaneously pressing the differential lock switch.

    Initiate the calibration sequence.

  4. Hold both for approximately 10 seconds until the right-hand transmission gear screen displays "Ct".

Wait for the system to acknowledge the calibration mode.

  5. Once "Ct" is displayed, place the PowerShuttle arm into the forward position to begin the calibration.

    Start the active calibration process.

  6. Allow the calibration to run for about 10 minutes.

The screen will continuously show "Ct", and it is normal to hear the transmission shifting and making noises during this time.

  7. Wait for the right-hand screen to display the transmission ratio you were in before starting (e.g., "1A/2A" or "1E/2E").

This indicates the calibration process has completed.

  8. Save the settings: Place the PowerShuttle into neutral, disengage the differential lock, idle the tractor down, and switch the engine off.

Confirm and save the new calibration changes.

  9. Restart the tractor and test drive using various maneuvers (forward to reverse, neutral to forward, etc.).

Validate that the shifting is smooth and the calibration was successful.

Parts you might need

(3)
  • Turbo Clutch Valve

    G716100600122

Replace if calibration fails repeatedly due to hardware failure.

  • Cable / Wiring Harness (AMP Minitimer, Turbo Clutch Valves)

    X899980246201

Replace if calibration fails repeatedly due to hardware failure.

  • Transmission Fluid & Filters

Generic maintenance items; replace if fluid is burnt or heavily contaminated, which can prevent successful calibration.
