Massey Ferguson 04.01.F0 – TRANS (Transmission Control Module / Autotronic controller): Transmission Calibration Issue (TRANS)
Issue description
The transmission control module has detected that the transmission's internal calibration parameters are incomplete, out of bounds, or have been lost. This condition typically results in jerky shifting, delayed direction changes, or a lack of response when using the PowerShuttle lever.

Check the cause
Check transmission oil temperature on the Dash Control Center (diagnostic screen 1) to ensure it is between 35°C (95°F) and 45°C (113°F)
Warm up components by engaging the PTO and cycling the PowerShuttle lever forward and reverse 10 times in each direction for 5–10 seconds
Reset all PowerShuttle progressivity settings (forward engagement, reverse engagement, and ratio shifting sensitivity) to '0' on the left-hand dash screen
Check for and resolve any other active fault codes, specifically for the clutch pedal sensor or shuttle position potentiometer, as these will block calibration
Repair steps
Position tractor
Position the tractor on completely flat ground.
Prepare tractor for calibration
Disengage the PTO, place the tractor in neutral, release the park brake, and ensure the differential lock and front axle are disengaged.
Raise engine speed
Raise the engine speed to approximately 1500 RPM (± 100 RPM) using the hand throttle.
Initiate calibration mode
Raise the PowerShuttle arm to the 'raised' position (left of the steering wheel) and hold it there while simultaneously pressing the differential lock switch.
Hold controls
Hold both for approximately 3 to 10 seconds until the right-hand transmission gear screen on the dash displays 'Ct'.
Begin calibration
Once 'Ct' is displayed, place the PowerShuttle arm into the forward position to begin the calibration.
Wait for calibration
The calibration takes approximately 10 minutes. The screen will continuously show 'Ct', and it is normal to hear the transmission shifting and making noises during this time.
Verify completion
Once complete, the right-hand screen will display the transmission ratio you were in before starting (e.g., '1A/2A' or '1E/2E').
Save settings
Place the PowerShuttle into the neutral position, disengage the differential lock, idle the tractor down, and switch the engine off to confirm the new changes.
Test drive
Restart the tractor and test drive it using a variety of maneuvers (forward to reverse, neutral to forward, etc.) to validate smooth shifting.

Shuttle Position Potentiometer / Forward-Reverse Sensor
Often located on the transmission cover; incorrect voltage readings here will cause calibration failure.
Transmission Solenoid Valves
Responsible for executing the shifts during calibration.
Transmission Control Module (Autotronic)
The ECU itself may require replacement or a software re-flash by a dealer if internal memory fails.
