04.01.F2

Massey Ferguson 04.01.F2 – TRANS: Transmission Calibration Issue

Issue description

This code indicates that the transmission control system has detected an incomplete, failed, or out-of-bounds calibration sequence for the transmission clutches or shuttle system. It often presents as harsh/jerky clutch engagement, delayed direction changes, or a complete lack of shuttle response when switching directions.

Check the cause

  1. Verify transmission oil temperature is between 35°C (95°F) and 45°C (113°F) on the Dash Control Center under Diagnostic Screen 1

  2. Perform warm-up procedure: Activate the PowerShuttle (forward and reverse) 10 times in each direction for 5–10 seconds to warm up control units and solenoid valves

  3. Configure PowerShuttle progressivity settings (forward engagement, reverse engagement, and ratio shifting sensitivity) to '0' on the left-hand dash screen

  4. Ensure no other active sensor faults (such as clutch pedal potentiometer or shuttle position sensor voltage issues) are present, as these will block calibration

Repair steps

  1. Position the tractor

Position the tractor on flat, level ground with the engine running.

  2. Prepare transmission

Disengage the PTO, place the transmission in Neutral, and release the Park Brake.

  3. Raise engine speed

Raise the engine speed to approximately 1500 RPM.

  4. Initiate calibration mode

Raise the PowerShuttle arm (located to the left of the steering wheel) to the raised position and hold it there while simultaneously pressing the Differential Lock switch.

  5. Hold controls

Hold both for approximately 10 seconds until the right-hand screen on the dash displays "Ct" (Calibration mode).

  6. Begin calibration

To begin the calibration, move the PowerShuttle arm into the Forward position.

  7. Wait for calibration

The screen will continuously display "Ct" for about 10 minutes. It is completely normal to hear the transmission shifting, clunking, and making noises during this automated process.

  8. Verify completion

Once calibration is complete, the right-hand screen will display the transmission ratio you were in before starting (e.g., "1A/2A" or "1E/2E").

  9. Save the Settings

Place the PowerShuttle back into the Neutral position, disengage the differential lock, idle the tractor down, and turn the engine off to confirm and save the new changes.

  10. Test drive

Restart the tractor and test drive using a variety of maneuvers (forward to reverse, neutral to forward, etc.) to validate that the shifting is now smooth.
