04.01.F3

Massey Ferguson 04.01.F3 – TRANS: Transmission Calibration Issue

Issue description

The transmission control system has lost its calibration parameters, or the current calibration is out of specification, resulting in rough, jerky, or improper shifting (especially when using the forward/reverse shuttle).

Applies to these machines

  • 7715
  • 7715S
  • 7716
  • 7716S
  • 7718
  • 7718S
  • 7719
  • 7720
  • 7720S
  • 7722
  • 7722S
  • 7724
  • 7724S
  • 7726
  • 7726S
  • Tier 4 (2015-2021)

Check the cause

  1. Park the tractor on completely flat, level ground.

  2. Verify transmission oil temperature is between 35°C (95°F) and 45°C (113°F) via Dash Control Center diagnostic screen 1.

  3. Warm up the tractor through normal operation or by engaging the PTO if the oil is cold.

  4. Activate the PowerShuttle (forward and reverse) 10 times in each direction for 5 to 10 seconds to prime components and warm up control units and solenoid valves.

  5. Configure the PowerShuttle progressivity settings (forward engagement, reverse engagement, and ratio shifting sensitivity) all to '0' on the left-hand dash screen.

Repair steps

  1. Prepare tractor for calibration

With the tractor warmed up and ready, disengage the PTO, place the transmission in neutral, and release the parking brake.

  2. Raise engine speed

Raise the engine speed to approximately 1500 RPM.

  3. Initiate calibration mode

Raise the PowerShuttle arm (located to the left of the steering wheel) to the raised position and hold it there while simultaneously pressing the differential lock switch.

  4. Hold controls

Hold both for approximately 10 seconds until the right-hand transmission gear screen on the dash displays 'Ct' (Calibration Mode).

  5. Start automated calibration

Once 'Ct' is displayed, place the PowerShuttle arm into the forward position to begin the automated calibration.

  6. Wait for calibration

The process takes approximately 10 minutes. The screen will continuously show 'Ct', and it is normal to hear the transmission shifting and making noises during this time.

  7. Verify completion

Once complete, the right-hand screen will display the transmission ratio you were in before starting (e.g., '1A/2A' or '1E/2E').

  8. Save the Settings

Place the PowerShuttle into the neutral position, disengage the differential lock, idle the tractor down, and switch the engine off to confirm and save the new changes.

  9. Validation

Restart the tractor and test drive it using a variety of maneuvers (forward to reverse, neutral to forward, etc.) to ensure the shifting is smooth and the fault code has cleared.
