Massey Ferguson 04.02.22 – TRANS: Issue With Signal Voltage From Foot Throttle Sensor

The control module is receiving a voltage signal from the foot throttle position sensor (potentiometer) that falls outside the expected or plausible operating range (e.g., voltage too high, voltage too low, or an erratic signal). When this occurs, the system cannot accurately determine the operator's throttle input, which may result in the tractor defaulting to a limited RPM mode or ignoring the foot pedal entirely.

   Check the foot throttle sensor wiring harness for physical damage, micro-cracks, or degraded solder joints

   Disconnect the sensor and inspect the contact surfaces of the pins for oxidation or corrosion, which can distort the voltage reading

   Using a multimeter, verify that the sensor is receiving the correct +5V reference supply voltage from the module

   Monitor the signal voltage while slowly depressing and releasing the foot pedal. Look for dead spots, sudden voltage drops, or spikes that confirm internal failure of the potentiometer

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.

   Removal

   Locate the foot throttle pedal assembly in the cab. Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the throttle potentiometer. Unbolt and remove the faulty sensor/pedal assembly.

   Installation

   Mount the new genuine Massey Ferguson foot throttle sensor/pedal and secure the hardware. Reconnect the electrical harness, ensuring it clicks into place securely.

   Reconnect Power

   Reconnect the tractor's battery.

   Sensor Calibration

   Calibration of the throttle pedal sensor must be carried out every time the throttle potentiometer is replaced. Warning: This calibration must be carried out with the engine stopped. Access the tractor's diagnostic interface/dashboard menu to initiate the calibration. The procedure is carried out in two successive steps to teach the module the minimum (idle) and maximum (full throttle) engine speeds in relation to the physical position of the pedal.

   Clear Codes

   Once calibrated, use the diagnostic interface to clear the stored 04.02.22 fault code from the TRANS module.
