Massey Ferguson 04.02.23 – Transmission Control Module (TRANS): Cruise Control Button Signal Issue (TRANS)

The signal voltage coming from the cruise control button (typically the C1/C2 memory buttons located on the Multipad/multifunction joystick) is outside the expected or permissible parameters. This is usually caused by an open circuit, a short circuit, or a physically failed microswitch inside the joystick.

   Physical Inspection: Inspect the cruise control buttons on the Multipad joystick (on the right-hand Command Control Armrest) for physical damage, sticking, or debris preventing the button from returning to its neutral position.

   Wiring & Connector Check: Inspect the wiring harness running from the armrest joystick down to the Transmission Control Module. Look for pinched wires, chafing, or loose connector pins.

   Live Data Testing: Using a diagnostic scan tool, monitor the live signal voltage for the cruise control switch. Press and release the button to see if the voltage toggles correctly. If the voltage remains static (stuck high or low), the switch or wiring is faulty.

   Continuity Test: Disconnect the joystick harness and test the switch pins for continuity with a multimeter when the button is pressed. If the switch does not close/open the circuit properly, the joystick assembly requires replacement.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.

   Access the Armrest

   Carefully remove the trim panels on the right-hand Command Control Armrest to expose the mounting hardware and wiring for the Multipad joystick.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the main electrical connector linking the joystick to the tractor's cab harness.

   Remove the Joystick

   Unscrew the retaining bolts/screws holding the joystick assembly to the armrest console and lift the faulty unit out.

   Install the New Part

   Seat the new Multipad joystick into the armrest, secure it with the mounting hardware, and plug in the electrical connector.

   Reassemble and Test

   Reinstall the armrest trim panels. Reconnect the battery. Turn the key to the ON position, clear the 04.02.23 fault code using a diagnostic tool, and test the C1/C2 cruise control functions during a test drive to ensure the transmission module receives the signal.
