Massey Ferguson 04.02.24 – TRANS: Park Lock Switch On Steering Column Direction Lever, Signal Issue

The controller is receiving an implausible signal, an open circuit, or a short circuit from the park lock switch located on the power shuttle/direction lever on the steering column. When the operator engages or disengages the park lock, the switch fails to send the correct voltage signal to the controller, preventing the system from verifying whether the transmission is safely locked in park.

   Check the cab fuse box for blown fuses, specifically F7 (steering wheel lever) or F15 (Park Lock switch)

   Remove the steering column shroud and inspect the wiring harness leading to the direction lever for chafed wires, loose pins, or corrosion at the connector

   Disconnect the switch and use a multimeter to test the park lock switch for proper continuity when the lever is physically moved in and out of the park position

   Verify that the reference voltage is reaching the switch and that the signal is returning to the TRANS module when the switch is closed

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent short circuits.

   Access the Switch

   Remove the plastic shrouds/cowling surrounding the steering column to expose the base of the left-hand direction lever (power shuttle lever).

   Disconnect Wiring

   Unplug the electrical connector linking the direction lever/park lock switch to the main cab harness.

   Remove the Component

   Unbolt the retaining screws holding the park lock switch (or the entire direction lever assembly, if the switch is a non-serviceable integrated unit on your specific trim) to the steering column.

   Install the New Part

   Mount the replacement switch/lever assembly and secure the retaining screws.

   Reassemble

   Reconnect the electrical harness and reinstall the steering column shrouds.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition on, and use a diagnostic tool to clear the 04.02.24 fault code from the TRANS module. Test the forward/reverse and park lock engagement to ensure the signal issue is resolved.
