Massey Ferguson 04.02.47 – TRANS: Transmission Range Has Not Moved After Range Solenoid Has Been Energised (TRANS)
Issue description
The transmission control system has sent an electrical command to energize a specific range shift solenoid, but the system did not detect the expected physical movement of the transmission range mechanism. This usually points to a failed solenoid coil, a stuck hydraulic valve spool, low hydraulic pressure, or a wiring issue preventing the solenoid from fully actuating.

Check the cause
Check the transmission and hydraulic fluid level and condition, as low or heavily contaminated fluid can cause a lack of hydraulic pressure or cause the solenoid valve spool to stick.
Inspect the wiring harness and connector at the transmission range solenoid block for corrosion, broken wires, or loose pins.
Use a multimeter to check the resistance of the solenoid coil.
Verify that the TRANS module is delivering the correct voltage to the solenoid when a range change is commanded.
If the electrical circuit is sound, check for a mechanically stuck valve cartridge or a failed internal clutch/range synchronizer.
Repair steps
Prep the Machine
Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, lower all implements, and turn off the engine.
Depressurize & Disconnect
Relieve any residual hydraulic system pressure and disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent accidental shorts.
Locate the Solenoid
Locate the transmission control valve block on the side of the transmission housing where the hydraulic lines route to the range clutch system.
Remove the Faulty Solenoid
Disconnect the electrical wiring harness from the suspect solenoid. Remove the retaining nut or bolt holding the solenoid coil to the valve stem. Carefully extract the solenoid coil (and the valve cartridge if replacing the entire assembly). Have a catch pan ready, as some hydraulic fluid will leak out.
Install the New Part
Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid valve with clean hydraulic fluid. Insert it into the valve block and torque the retaining fastener to OEM specifications.
Reassemble and Test
Reconnect the electrical harness and the battery. Top off the hydraulic fluid if any was lost. Start the tractor and cycle through the transmission ranges to ensure the code clears and the ranges engage smoothly.
